Making It Legal

Happy Sunday folks! Has everyone sprung ahead? I started spring off right with a 5 mile treadmill run. I was sad to head back to the treadmill after being able to run outside a few times last week. It was pouring outside when I woke up so I had no other choice than to hit the treadmill. It wasn't too bad though because I had some good tunes going.

Last night I had my first gluten-free dining out experience. My friend and I went to Legal Seafoods. It was kind of a fail on my part to put effort into a full gluten-free dining experience. I didn't even ask for the gluten-free menu and just ordered what I knew was gluten free. I felt like I should've at least asked for and ordered off of the gluten free menu for blogging purposes, but I really wasn't in the mood for making a production out of things you know? Next time I'll put more effort into it. Anyway, I ordered the jumbo shrimp cocktail and a house salad to which I added goat cheese.

The shrimp were huge! Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. I love Legal Seafoods. You really can't go wrong there. They're a local chain, but I think they're the best in Boston. Rhode Island is my favorite place to get seafood, but if I'm in MA and in the mood for seafood, Legal's is where it's at.

I've been gluten free for one week and I have to be honest and admit I don't see or feel a difference yet. I'm sure it takes more time though so I'm not giving up just yet. There's one weird thing that's happened that I wasn't expecting though. After I ate gluten free pasta on Wednesday, I had some bad stomach pains and have been going to the bathroom nonstop since. Sorry if this is gross, but hey, everyone poops. It's now Sunday and it hasn't stopped. I've taken Immodium to help the problem, but I'm wondering if going gluten free could give me irritable bowels. Anyone have experience with this or any suggestions as to why I'm feeling this way? Thanks and enjoy your day with my poo in your thoughts!!

Not sure....maybe something that they use to make the pasta texture right is not agreeing with you??

at least you had some awesome shrimp. I love legal :-)

Oh dang, that's weird. I agree with above, maybe it's just how they make the rice pasta?
In all my years, I have never been to legal! Hmph, imagine that!

I don't know much about gluten free stuff, but I do know that I have felt better when not eating it. Maybe after a few days of gluten free, your system was cleaned out? Like maybe the foods full of gluten were constipating you??

I love Legal's! Such a good restaurant. I'm sorry that you're feeling so poopy (sorry, I had to) but hopefully that's just a weird side effect of starting to go gluten-free and it'll go away?

I think Maine and Rhode Island have the best seafood with MA tied for 3rd...

Interesting about the tummy troubles you are having - maybe its not related and a virus...?

mmm legals is great always good and fresh...have you been to LTK downtown in teh seaport district? its SO cute and more 'trendy' but the food is just as good, if not better!

maybe the tummy troubles could be getting used to the new foods? I have no idea..if it keeps happening I would check it out witb your doc!

Hmm...weird tummy troubles. I don't know much about gluten-free diets, but it's something to research. It could also be a virus...they are taking over my classroom! Maybe the virus has made its way to MA? Hope you feel better soon!

I haven't been to Legal Seafood in probably ten years. They just opened one in Atlanta. I should go back.

Can't help with the poopy question. Sorry! Feel better.

Most people I know have had LESS irritable bowels with less gluten, but a lot of times things get worse before better, so give it a little while like you said.

I actually think its good when you eat gluten free without a big production. I know as a person who can't eat everything I like any way to downplay it!

I love Legals! If I am not eating seafood on the Cape, Legals is where I want to go.

Ihave no explanation for the tummy troubles. Going gluten free helped my tummy considerably. I seem to be able to tolerate occasional meals with gluten, as long as its not consistently in my system.

Hmmm...that's very strange!! Are you sure it was the pasta, and not something else? What was the pasta made from? Could it have been the food you ate at the restaurant, and not the pasta? That sort of reaction isn't normal, obviously. Also, it's ok to not feel a difference right away (in the fibromyalgia) I would think it takes a couple months. Keep up the good work, unless you can't eat gluten free products...then that's a problem!

I think that your stomach issues may just be your body cleansing from the gluten...normally eating gluten free actually helps people with IBS. I would maybe avoid that pasta for now and try something else (like eating rice with your pasta sauce, or trying corn pasta). With GF foods everything seems to be trial and error. I hope you feel better! Stick with it for a while and see if you notice a difference =)
