I started my day with a workout as usual. This morning's workout was supposed to be a strength training workout with 20 minutes of cardio. I switched it up though because if we get that big snow storm, I don't know if I'll be able to drive to the gym to run tomorrow morning and I can lift and do a cardio dvd in my living room if I'm snowed in. I'm always planning ahead :) I was supposed to run 3 miles, but ended up running 4. It felt good so I went with it. I'm sure my legs and back will thank me for it later. I'm glad I don't have to stress about if I can get to the gym tomorrow. I stress over weird things heehee!
My dinner last night was a challenge of sorts. Spaghetti squash was on sale at the store again and I figured I'd give it another try. What can I say? I love a challenge. Every time I make it, I get comments saying to add tomato sauce. Don't you guys know by now that I don't like tomato sauce?! hahaha! I added a tiny bit of marinara sauce, peas, and a dollop of plain Chobani to my squash.
I served it along side honey bbq baked chicken. It was pretty good. I only like marinara sauce if it's burnt in the pan first. I know I'm weird...wanna fight about it? Maybe I'll do that next time. I really liked the Greek yogurt on it. I'm not a huge fan of spaghetti squash yet, but I'm determined to come up with the perfect recipe. I do like the addition of peas, so there's that.
Remember when I set a goal to stop chewing gum? I was doing pretty well with just a few slips here and there. Recently I've been having a lot of jaw pain that extended up into my ears. I WebMd'd that mess and the results were an impacted wisdom tooth. I haven't been to a dentist in years because I hate my dentist. He's mean, smells bad and they always lose my records when I go there and I end up having to explain my whole dental history to twenty different people. Since I was in so much pain, I decided to suck it up and go. When I called the dentist's office, they told me they couldn't see me for two weeks even though I was in pain. I knew that wouldn't do so I looked up a new dentist on my health insurance website and went to the first one who would take me that day for an appointment. What a difference this dentist was! She was around my age (early 30's) and very nice. I only waited five minutes in the waiting area before the exam! She poked around my mouth and felt my jaw muscles. WebMD was right, the dentist diagnosed me with an impacted tooth and TMD. My bite is completely out of line and she said the culprit was years of chewing gum all day and grinding my teeth at night. I was fitted for a dental splint to wear at night and made an appointment with the oral surgeon to have the impacted tooth removed. The moral of the story? Stop chewing gum! I threw away every pack of gum I owned and haven't chewed or looked at gum since. Seriously, the pain and $500 out of pocket for the stupid dental splint is NOT worth it. If you chew gum like a crazy woman like I did, please stop. I don't want anyone to go through what I'm going through now.
Sorry to have gone on a tangent there :) Thanks for your feedback yesterday about the empty PB jar giveaway. I didn't think there'd be too much interest in it, but thought I'd ask just in case. You guys are all germophobes like me! I won't do a giveaway. I'll just give them to my girl, Julie who loves OIAJ. I always pawn my empty jars off to her.
Have a great day!

Oh wow! I don't really chew gum but thats good to know! I grind my teeth at night too and I have to wear a mouthguard. I hated it at first but then I got used to it and now it feels weird to sleep without it. Happy Snow Day! Hope you get to go home soon!
I had an impacted tooth and it was really painful! Did she give you meds?? I also hate tomato sauce. I scrape most of it off my pizza. Blah. 1 day of gum chewing hurts my jaw, but I need it sometimes to curb my appetite. If not, I feel like I could eat nonstop all day!
Oh man...I need to cut WAYYYYY back on my gum chewing. It's so hard though!!!
Ugh sorry to hear that! Hope the night guard helps, this makes me glad that I don't like gum because I HATE the dentist.
eek! i better watch my gum chewing! i had to wear a night brace...THAT ENDED UP FUCKIN" UP MY TEETH ALIGNMENT so now i'm trying to fix that! UGH!
Anyways, honey bbq chicken looks good. i should try to make it! help?
yeah, dem knees. must be because i'm neglecting MY foam roller hubby.
I haven't tried spaghetti squash yet and I'm not sure I'm convinced I should, ha! I'll wait until you figure out a recipe and be lazy. :)
So glad that you found a dentist that you like - even though it was an expensive visit. Hopefully your pain will be over soon though!
WAHOOO!!! Empty pb jar baby!! Thanks sister!
That is ca-ray-zay about the gum. Who knew chewing so much gum could cause all those problems? You should put the money you would spend on gum in a jar and at the end of the month or week buy yourself something nice, like what people who quit smoking do.
Did you get an early release yet?! I haven't :(
Haha okay I will have to read this post every time I go to put a piece of gum in my mouth! Must stop!
Sorry about your teeth. My mom has a night guard to save her teeth from grinding. That can do a lot of damage along with the gum. :(
Re spaghetti squash - I think it's gross. The texture creeps me out and I've tried it lots of different ways. Just FYI. :)
(Also, I always have lots of trouble leaving comments on your blog - it takes me two or three tries and often deletes my comments before posting. Any thoughts?)
I love gum...I need to cut back too! UGH!
oh my lord! so sorry to hear about your tooth! but so glad it helped you kick the habit!
And you're brave for trying spaghetti squash again. I cant even look at it without gagging!
The only time I made spaghetti squash it turned out sooo mushy. It was definitely not spaghetti like at all. I haven't tried it since :( Something about squash in general gives me that gaggy feeling. Weird.
I can't believe that about the gum! CRAZY! :)
I have one pack of gum left and I refuse to open it because I will finish it...and with this storm, who knows when I will leave my house lol. I refuse to have a gum OR pb emergency!
Where's the squash sale? Cant miss that! You should mix it with olive oil, salt, pepper and parm!! Now that's good.
uhhh yeah, big storm haha
yum!! that speghetti squash looks awesomeeee I am so glad you went back for teh challenge, I love challenges myself :) I have really cut down on my gum chewing too! I think you were an inspiration :)
ahhh im so sorry about your jaw! that sounds terrible. i will def think twice next time i go to chew gum lol. love spaghetti squash!!

DANG! im so sorry about this girl! i need to cut down my gum intake, especially after reading this
WEBMD diagnosis' are the best! haha, jk, I don't recommend them, obviously, but sometimes they actually are true! Good for you for going to the dentist for a "real diagnosis" even though it ended up being the same one! So all the chewing gum, in the trash? Good for you. not worth another impacted tooth, yikes. I remember when my dentist told me I had to stop sucking my thumb or my teeth would get all crooked (this was when I was 5). I stopped cold turkey after that. My first addiction, no more!
Enjoy the snow :)
Well I wrote this really long comment, and just realized it didn't post. Whatever. Lame! Ok so WebMD can be dangerous, but how FUNNY that it was true for you! I'm glad you still went to the "Scary" dentist anyway, and now no more gum chewing. this could be good, right? An excuse to not chew gum!! It helps you stop easier, I would think.
Enjoy the snow today Melissa!
Hi Melissa! Thanks for commenting on my blog =) Your spaghetti squash looks great too! To answer your question, I usually scoop out the whole thing into a bowl and serve it, so I'm not quite sure how much we eat each, but its probably almost half and half! I always give him more -- boys and their appetites! I make sure to buy a big one so he gets enough, and if there are left overs I will add it to my lunch the next day.
That's awesome that you live in Boston! Let me know if you would like to meet up sometime, I just moved here =)
Glad you went to the dentist - it is amazing what a good dentist can do. I love my dentist so much I will drive 45 minutes to get to him - he is where I used to live in RI.
I had to shell out $400 for a mouth guard last year because I grind my teeth so much. It sucks but I would rather have my teeth for years to come!
