Guest Post: Biggest Loser Workout

Today's guest post is courtesy of Melissa. She's here to walk us through a Biggest Loser Workout that you can do in front of the tv. Sounds good to me! Thanks Melissa!

For a few hours, I struggled with what to write about. Did I want to share a personal story? Some great tips? A recipe? Decisions, decisions...

Since I’m watching The Biggest Loser on DVR (Sorry, skipped it to watch Lost last night), I’ll share my Biggest Loser Workout with you. I’m no Jillian Michaels, but I’m going to share my wonderful workout with you guys.

In a typical two hour episode of the Biggest Loser, there are about 12 commercial breaks:

Commercial 1: 50 squats holding heavy dumbbells in each hand

Commercial 2: Plank for 1 minute, try to avoid a dog sniffing at your face

Commercial 3: 50 bicep curls holding heavy dumbbells and alternating arms

Commercial 4: 25 lunges per leg holding heavy dumbbells

Commercial 5: Plank for 1 minute

Commercial 6: 15 front and side raises holding light dumbbells

Commercial 7: Get a giant glass of ice water

Commercial 8: 30 squats holding heavy dumbbells in each hand

Commercial 9: Bathroom break; that was a lot of water!

Commercial 10: Plank for 1 minute

Commercial 11: 15 dips while leaning on the edge of the coffee table

Commercial 12: Brush your teeth and be ready for bed as soon as the show is over

Throughout this “workout,” I’m wearing my pajamas (currently light blue and featuring rubber duckies and bubbles) and don’t break a sweat. Yet doing some light weight exercises helps me get my blood flowing, digest my dinner, and hit the hay feeling like I accomplished another workout on top of what I did at the gym earlier in the day.

While watching an inspirational show like the Biggest Loser, I’m more motivated for TV exercise than normal. If I was watching Real Housewives, then perhaps I’d feel more motivated to do a facial or paint my nails. So now that I’ve typed through Commerical 1 of last night’s Biggest Loser episode, I’d better grab my weights and start squatting.

This is SORT OF what I do!!! Thanks for the extra ideas though. I do try to "workout" during the breaks because I swear even though the show is sort of lame, it inspires me to stay active (just like you said!). I sort of feel bad sitting on my booty, eating popcorn, watching these heavy people workout harder than I've ever worked out in my LIFE, so exercising at the breaks is an easy way to make me feel better.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm impressed, I usually eat my dessert during the biggest loser and feel guilty haha

Haha, such a good idea! I only watch Biggest Loser occasionally, but I love the idea of working out during commercial breaks for any show. Though usually by 8 o'clock at night I have nothing left in me...haha

This makes me NOT want to FF through commercials! : ) What a fun idea! I totally get the dog sniffing in the face thing...mine does that all the time, it makes exercising in the living room nearly impossible!
