Give It All You Got!

It's Sunday my friends. Back to work tomorrow. Now, don't go getting those Sunday blues, just remember that it's back to regularly scheduled life and you can dive in and get started on your goals for 2010!

I began my day with a Core Fusion workout. The 50 minutes flew by! It was only my second time with Core Fusion, but I'm addicted. I never would've thought I could get a better strength training workout using my own body weight, 3lb weights, and just a few, simple moves, but I've totally changed my mind. When I'm doing Core Fusion, I can feel myself getting a better workout than simply lifting weights in the gym. This change in my workout was definitely needed. I was going to go to the gym and battle it out with the elliptical trainer, but it's STILL snowing and I hate driving so I decided to do Cheryl Burke's Disco Abs off Exercise TV. I love that half hour cardio jam! I highly recomend it. However, like any workout dvd, what you put into it is what you get out of it. I think some people don't see results from workout dvds because they aren't putting as much effort into it as they do when they're in an actual aerobics class or running on the treadmill. So remember your form and remember to give it all you've got when working out at home. Put strength and power behind your punches if you're kickboxing, lift weights heavy enough so that you're challenging yourself if you're strength training, and even if it's a simple dance workout, make sure you're getting into it and not just going through the motions. These are the things that will give you the results you're looking for.

After workout out, I refueled with my favorite...Chobani!

Vanilla Chobani and 1/4 cup Kashi GoLean Crunch. Are you guys sick of seeing this yet?

Later on, I had pumpkin oats.

1/2 cup oats, 1/4 cup fat free cottage cheese, 1/4 cup pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, bananas, a sprinkle of Organic Path's Pumpkin Granola, cacao chips, and a small scoop of White Chocolate Wonderful.

This afternoon, I found another podcast on itunes for you all house/trance/dance music fans. Brad Miller's Push The Night. Each podcast is labeled by genre: House, progressive house, techno, tech trance, trance, downtempo electro, etc... You can listen to the podcast before you download it to make sure you like it, and it's free! I also found a few free meditation podcasts. I've been trying to add a few minutes of meditation/relaxation to my days for the past week, but have trouble shutting my mind off. I thought I'd try a guided meditation rather than trying to do it myself. I think a podcast would be perfect, just put on the headphones, shut my eyes, and relax. I'll let you know if it works!

I moved up our Monday night sweet potato tradition to tonight. I was craving my sweet potato!

With my tater, I had a bunless Boca Burger with a bit of Garlic & Herb Laughing Cow (I stuffed the rest into the sweet potatoe skins), honey mustard, ketchup, pickles, lettuce and roasted brussels sprouts and raisins. A very comforting dinner.

Okay, one last episode left in season 2 of The Wire. Season 3 here we come! Have a great night!

How do you give it all you got when working out at home?

I do think I am more likely to take a quick break if I am working out at home, but then again I am also more likely to do it in the first place. I drove to the gym this morning in the snow and it was probably not the best choice- the roads were pretty bad!

SO happy you are loving Core Fusion. I totally agree, it is such a powerful full body workout. I never work out like that at the gym. It is crazy how your body weight makes the moves what they are!

I want to try Cheryl Burke's Disco Abs! Damn, I JUST stopped having cable so now I can't try it. I'll have to check it out next time I visit my mom in Queens! I will recommend it to her as well.

Yes Core Fusion is addicting! I can't wait for you to try a live class! I am going to check out that podcast. I am a house and trance addict as well haha.

I like your workout dvd tips. I don't really work out from home because I feel like I wouldn't get a good enough workout, and obvi I wouldn't if I think that way. I might try exercise tv on demand one of these days...

This is bad, but I compete with my husband. Except...he doesn't know it. : ) We have a treadmill and I try to either run faster or farther than he did on his last run. It's friendly competition and it's helping me reach my goals! But you're right, at-home workouts deserve 110% too!

Oh, and thanks for reminding me not to get Sunday blues. 'Cause I've got them BAD!

I agree that you have to put some extra effort into some of those DVDs or Exercise TV programs. Especially if you do them everyday, and your body starts getting used to them. Sometimes I continue to work as the instructor is talking, or when she says to slow down or stop.

I have been addicted to sweet potatoes lately, and in fact i'm making some right now in the oven! I get them soft so I can just pop themin the oven at night, and they can be ready in about ten minutes :)

HAve a great day Melissa!

I'll never get sick of your chobani + go lean crunch. I'm addicted to GLC! The whole box is gone in like 1.5 days. ;-)

I have really started to like working out at home a lot! Exercise TV has been amazing. I tried a cardio kick class and I think I got a lot out of it because even though I was lost during most of the steps, I kept moving and laughing at myself. Haha. Not a pretty sight.

Hope you have a great Monday back into the swing of things!

I put sweet potato into my chili and oh my, delicious!

Love the podcast tip. One of the things yoga/meditation has helped me with is living in the present and setting intentions. I never thought I could shut my brain off (it is seriously ALWAYS going) but it helps me to focus. Even if I do it for a few minutes a day, like you said. Good luck with it!

I definitely have a difficult time pushing myself at home. I always do a much better job at the gym. The cardio classes are the best because I really push myself to keep up.

I just can't seem to get my act together when I work out at home. I am impressed with your motivations, for me it is gym or nothing!

And I think sweet potatoes are good for every night.

I used to use 2 old VHS tapes to workout at home: The Firm and Denise Austin's 10 minute Abs. Seriously amazing workouts!

I tend to push myself most if I'm doing basic, old school exercises. I loved Disco Abs but I was so confused on some steps that I gave up a little.

Ah! I just finished Season 3 of The Wire and started 4 last night.... Good Stuff!

Everytime I try an at home dvd, I always find a reason to stop and do something else 'more productive'...

I have trouble working out at home - I live on the second floor and am afraid that moving around too much will cause a noise violation. For a while I didn't have downstairs neighbors and did 30 minute shred all the time.

Did you watch Desperate Housewives - so sad!

I'm horrible at working out at home. I'm lazy and stop. haha! So, I'm no help!

I find the gym to be soo much more motivating than working out at home! Not sure why, but I really like all the other people being around, and the high energy level. Plus, my dog bugs me at home :).

I love Core Fusion! My favorite is the live class of Core Fusion Sport - I definitely push myself harder when I'm at the gym.

Exercise TV is awesome. If you really enjoy their workouts you should check out their New Year New You workout pledge. It is a great way to stay motivated and enegized to lose any pounds you still needs to get through. Plus, you could get a trip to Los Angeles.

Either way, keep up the good work.
