I began my Christmas bright and early. I slept late yesterday and was hoping I would today, but my body was up and ready. I went up to the gym for a quick 6 miles. I ran 6 miles in 53 min. Surprisingly, I wasn't the only one there at 5:30. There were three other people I'd never seen in the gym before. I guess they needed to burn off some Christmas cookies :) After my run, I refueled with a banana slathered with Barney Butter with raisins on top.
If raisins are nature's candy, bananas are nature's marshmallows. Yum!
I went to a holiday party last night, but didn't take any pictures. It didn't matter anyway because my meal was kind of a hodge podge. I was told I'd be okay going in as a vegetarian, but unfortunately that wasn't so. Even the salad had meat in it! I didn't want to call any attention to myself so I made the best of it. I loaded my plate with some tomatoes from the salad, green beans, dried apricots, dried cranberries, and some cheese from the appetizer plate. They had Diet Coke though, so I was excited to get my soda fix! It really wasn't a big deal and I wasn't there for the food anyway. I admit I was embarrassed because people kept telling me to just pick out the meat and asking if I was okay. Well, vegetarians don't eat dishes that have meat cooked in it (HELLO!) and I was fine with what I ate. I just didn't want to call any attention to myself. I was so embarrassed! The whole thing made me very self conscience for the rest of the night. Oh well. The rest of the evening was fun. There was even a little boy playing "Jingle Bells" on his armpit in just his undies. I was entertained to say the least.
This afternoon I'm heading to my friend Kara's for dinner. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm very close with her family and a few of my other friends from out of town are going to stop by as well. I really miss these girls and can't wait to see them. I know I'll be okay on the vegetarian food front because Kara is vegan and her mom knows how to make some great vegan dishes. Like Angela Chase would say, "we're going to have a time."
Merry Christmas!!

wow awesome you got up and did 6 miles!! have a great day with your friends girl!!
i just came back from a run myself - it wasn't as early as yours though!
I don't think you should have been embarrassed at the party at all - especially since you told them you were vegetarian! I hate when people tell me to pick out the meat - ewww.
Have a great time with your friends today!
Merry Christmas!
Oh no, so sorry about the vegetarian issue. I have so been there and done that. Yes, it amazes me at how many people think just pick ouot the meat and it is all good. I had a similar experience today since like you said who wants to call attention to yoruself. I was invited nextdoor and most of them do not speak English so I purposely didn;t tell them in advance as I didn't want to explain all the little details of what I do and don't eat and didn't want anyone to fuss over me. Oops, they were so upset they didn't have anything I could eat. Now they know what I do eat and in the future will have something, but I hate to be THAT person with the special meal if someone realy had to go oout of their way to make me something. I would rather eat something small at home and just be gracious to my host...unless I was promised something vegetarian in the first place. Sorry for the rambling...Merry Christmas!
Ugh. I hate the whole "pick the meat out" argument. WTF. I am sorry that happened to you! I bet you had a ton of fun at Kara's! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas girl!! :)
When I was a vegetarian (For about a year) many people made the false assumption I could just pick meat out of my food....gross! No thanks. I'm glad you had a merry Christmas, either way :)
Good for you for running 6 miles in the morning! Wow, impressive.
And, I agree, bananas ARE nature's marshmallows! I hadn't thought of it that way. I like it.
merry belated christmas :)
so sorry to hear that night was kind of a bummer. I think its great that you didn't make a huge scene though!!
I'm sorry that sounds stressful. My family gives me a hard time if I don't eat huge amounts of everything at Christmas, it definitely makes me feel self conscious too!
Bananas are nature's marshmallows. Fact.
dude i miss my banana porn. and pb porn. =D
hahah you are ALWAYS welcome to be part of our family!
I wish I could run as fast as you! I'm trying to work on it.
Hope you had a great holiday, thats good that you made the best out of a bad situation.
bananas are most certainly nature's marshmallows. well said!
I totally know how you feel about the food issue. Since there is a lot I can't eat, people will often discuss it at the dinner table and I'm like OKAY SO...anyone have anything else interesting going on? It's such a weird thing to talk about while everyone is eating and when someone else cooked for you etc.
Sorry about the awkwardness at the party. Boo.
Merry Christmas!
Hope you had a fun time with your friends!! So sorry the party hosts weren't as accommodating as expected, that can be so tough.
I'm so jealous you got in a good workout, you go girl! I'm without gym access and have been slacking and missing a good workout terribly. I'm trying not to let it get to me and just keep my portions reasonable and walk a lot lol Enjoy the rest of your holiday!
Sounds like you had a great run!
I hate it when people aren't accomodating of other people's eatings. I get told all the time to pick the nuts out of things. Ummm...no. I'm allergic. What if I miss one!?!
Sounds like you made do - I also hate drawing attention to myself...
