This morning's strength training workout consisted of hammer curls, lat pulldowns, tricep extensions, and shoulder side raises. I followed the strength training with 20 minutes of intervals on the elliptical and a 5 minute cooldown on the treadmill. I'm sore already!
I kept my morning bowl of oats simple today, well simple for me anyway ;)
I'm extremely bored at work today. I've been surfing the interwebs and came across an article in the NY Times about Lighter Thanksgiving Desserts. I think offering a lighter alternative to your guests is a great idea. Especially if you have a diabetic in the family. You don't even have to get as fancy as they do in the article. Fruit salad or fresh fruit with a yogurt dip is an easy alternative as well. Would you eat a lighter dessert on Thanksgiving if it were offered?
Lunch today was yummy and something I'm definitely going to recreate in the near future.

That wrap looks great! I may have to copy that one :) I also want to try cottage cheese in my oats. I am not a huge fan of it but I need something in there to make them more fulfilling!
My BF is a type one diabetic with an appetite of an elephant. We always cook lighter because it's healthier for me but more important healthier for him and makes it easier to manage his diabetes. He typically will avoid things like mashed potatos and the rolls which are heavy in carbs. Carbs are what spikes your blood sugar. That way he's got more room for the good stuff :)
mmmm I had some roasted mushrooms at lunch, I forgot how good they are!
I like your idea about healthier desserts. My mom is diabetic so I am always trying to include a few healthier options when I'm with her.
Love the sprouts in your wrap. For me it's the sprouts that make a good sandwich a fab sandwich. I love em! Have fun with your friend tonight.
I love the whole foods salad bar too! I want to try the one in Dedham because I hear its the biggest one around. Yes I keep track of these things haha.
I would eat the lighter dessert AND the heavy dessert.
I'm so impressed with people who know the names to the exercises. I'm so retarded with that stuff. When I read it I'm all "huh?". I just do bicep curls and behind the head tricep dippidy do's and the ol' should pressaroo above my head with weights. Sorry if that was too technical.
I think I'm going to try cottage cheese oats minus the almond milk soon. Next time I have some regular cottage cheese which is soon, luckily. I emailed you, by the by.
I'm saving my strength workout for later tonight. But glad that you got yours in this morning.
A lighter Thanksgiving dessert with less sugar is also better for your teeth...No cavities for life! Haha, j/k.
FYI...you need to go to Madewell one day soon. Their latest promo is that if you donate a pair of old jeans, you'll get a 15% off coupon to use in 2010!
That wrap looks really tasty. I am all about using dinner itmes for lunch.
Enjoy your night out with your friend!
Looks like a great wrap and I love lemon in hummus! I would definitely eat the lighter dessert options especially if it tasted close to the real thing!
My pumpkin pie is nice and light. Who wants another pound of food after a full dinner? A fruit plate is also always classy
great idea with the strength training and then you got to meet up with a friend! hmmm I guess it depends what type of light dessert it was...I would rather taste a little bit of the REAL stuff this one day out of the year, then a lot of some not so tasty dessert that is lighter' but again, it totally depends on the dessert! I would have REAL apple pie with fat free ice cream, something like that sounds great, so you have a balance of both!
have a great night melissa!!
Currently in love with your wrap.. looks really yummy, healthy and filling!!
That wrap looks great - I love mushrooms and hummus combo.
We always have a huge fruit salad on the side of all the richer full fat desserts (like the pies I'm baking tomorrow...)
That way I can fill up on fruit and have a splurge too.
I would love to have a lighter dessert offered at Thanksgiving dinner - even fruit salad like you recommended would be perfect. I do think its ok to splurge a little though - it is a holiday!
Your wrap looks delicious - I love when I can incorporate dinner elements into another meal.
