Hi friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Yesterday, I woke up and headed out on a run. I have to say, it was probably the worst run I've ever had. My legs felt like lead, I had a headache, and I started crying halfway through. Despite these things, I ran 4.25 miles in 40 minutes. After showering and making myself somewhat presentable, I met one of my best friends and her husband (I hooked them up!) for breakfast. It was so nice to see them and catch up. They live in NYC now and were home for the holiday. After that, I went to my other best friend's parents house for an early dinner. My friend wasn't able to come home for Thanksgiving (she lives in Chicago), but I'm very close with her family and am always welcome in their home. I came home around 3 and watched about ten episodes of this show called, "The City." I never watched it before, but it was free in the OnDemand package of my cable and I had nothing better to do. It was kind of boring, but this one girl, Olivia, had pretty hair so there's that. All in all, it was a pretty good day, minus the bad run of course.
I didn't sleep very well last night (2 hours?) and, consequently, I was very tired this morning. I wasn't going to go to the gym, but I needed to work out some stress. I told myself to just make it a light workout and not to overdo it. I did a strength training exercise for each body part and my cardio party dvd. I'm glad I worked out because it felt good to get moving.
For breakfast, I tried my hand at recreating a childhood favorite. I used to eat those instant Quaker Oatmeal packets and the apple cinnamon was my absolute favorite. I received dried apple slices in the package from Newman's Own and used them in my oatmeal.

I cut up two apple slices and mixed them with 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup Cabot Fat Free Cottage Cheese, cinnamon, and a spoonful of Dark Chocolate Dreams PB.

BOMBASS. That's what I thought after the first bite. It tasted just like my childhood oats, but a lot more natural because there wasn't any added sugar of HFCS. Have you invented a recipe for your favorite childhood meal? Leave it in the comments!

That does sound delicious! I actually rehydrate dried apples - just pour hot water over them and they puff up and are really juicy!

First of all, thanks so much for your kind comment on my blog :) It made me feel very good. So sweet.
As for my childhood breakfasts/meals, I used to eat oatmeal a lot! I can still remember putting tons of honey and brown sugar and milk in my oats, which now is so different, since I use PEANUT BUTTER! When I was a kid I didn't really like peanut butter, CRAZY!
Sorry about yesterday's run. Good for you for even getting out there and running! I was uper lazy.
Smart balance PB and milk chocolate makes reeses oats. Omnomnomnomnom
My fave childhood meal is mac and cheese and I haven't made it from scratch in years, but I should!
What a poopy run! I'm glad the rest of your day went better spent with some nice people :)Your oats alwasy look so tasty, I need to try mine with just cottage cheese and water one of these days.
I can't really think of a favorite childhood meal. I don't really have "favorites" I guess. I like everything equally. Weird right? No fav color, movie, tv show, food, song, ect. I can never pick just one. But I did love cheerios with strawberries when I was little and I re created that a few times this past summer using...cheerios and strawberries (I didn't become an unhealthy eater till high school). It's one food that really takes me back to the summers as a wee one.
GIRL!! those dried apple slices so delish!! so do your oats :)
fav childhood meal.. (this is so fun to think about!!!) PB, nanner, honey sandwiches (on white bread!)
Those look awesome! I do the same thing with the maple brown sugar oats...SO delish.

Hmmm...I'm trying to think of a childhood favorite that I have remade...can't come up with anything now.
Sorry about the bad run - we all have those - I like to think it helps me remember the good ones better!
Hope you sleep better tonight!
I was trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my bag of dried apple slices. Mmm, now I have a great idea!
My favorite childhood meal is Shepherd's Pie. I haven't invented a recipe cuz it tastes the best when my grandmother makes it.
sorry about the run! those happen sometimes, but i just tel myself the next one will be even better!
I love that you recreated that apple cinnamon oatmeal - that was my favorite flavor as well.
Good for you for working out despite the 2 hours of sleep. It does always make me feel better, but sometimes it's so hard to remember!
